Welcome again to Freestyle 5. We have a special guest in studio to join us, Joe Loumena. Joe has been an icon in the flatland and old school scene for a long time coming now. If you have ever made the trek to Portland for one of the infamous Enjoy The Trick flat jams you have Joe to thank. We stole Joe away from printing BSR shirts long enough to talk shop on a couple videos.
This episode we cover some flatland by Michael Steingraeber, the Business trailer out of Canada, and Dylan Pfohl’s Trail Mix. So sit back and relax, because this is Freestyle 5. Has anyone seen Roman?

Episode 6 is here, the second of 2012. We take a look at the skills and insane hop Dakota Roche has in the recent Cinema Wheels edit. Also, late breaking edits and news that needs atttention. First up is the 40th birthday of The Condor, Mat Hoffman. Thats right kids, 40 years old and still puts all of us in awe. As a thank you for everyone’s birthday wishes Mat posted a short two trick run on youtube. This isn’t to be taken lightly, since those tricks include a 540 tab into a flair. Not your average run. Second is a call to action for some trails that are on the chopping block. We go over a quick edit of Mike Cottle and discuss the impending trouble at Florida’s Casselberry Trails. Just as a quick point the city of Casselberry is sticking the land owners and locals with code violations and hiding behind nonsense environmental accusations as reason to plow the trails. The locals are fighting it and looking for help. So check out the edit, then go to Thefreestyle5.com for more edits and links to a petition and other news about the trails. But for now hit play and enjoy..

So this is some pretty big news. We had already posted up a little bit about the trails, but we decided to get one of the locals, Mike Cottle, to fill us in on the situation a little more. The Casselberry trails and the owner of the land need support from the bmx community, to keep the trails from going under. Take some time to look at this issue and do what you can to help. We also included links to some videos that have been posted over the last couple years showing the trails in action; and most important a link to a petition going around. trying to save the trails. So lets first get Mike’s perspective on the situation.

“The trails are on our friend Aaron’s land, where house he grew up in is. We’ve been riding there for years; basically what this city is doing to us is crazy. There whole issue with the trails, is there being unnatural dirt to the land, so the city says (we bring the dirt in from 20mins away). Since we live in Florida most areas are sandy and practically impossible to build trails without bringing dirt in. What the City of Casselberry doesn’t get is plowing the trails isn’t resolving the problem with the clay; it’s still going to be on the land, just not in the shape of a jump or a berm. The city has also gone on the news and reported to news papers that we have tried working with them. This is the biggest pile of shit I’ve ever heard. All we want to do is to be able to ride our bikes in Aaron’s front yard and we would do anything to get the ok. We’ve applied for permits, which cost $500 that they haven’t approved yet. We have gotten the land surveyed, which they wanted us to do. The bottom line is that the city is raping us and if we had money for lawyers there would be problems. All the city wants is for us not to be there. As far as people involved in the scene, there are tons of us. We have a really good scene; Aaron and Paul who own the house, Joey J., Mark Mulville , Trey Jones, Rickey Bates, James c, Ryan Thone to name a few here and have loads of support from local businesses. There are many more; some local help and support, all the Sparkys brands (Subrosa, Shadow, Sputnic, Banned) Native Bmx, Out-spoken bike shop, Mr bikes, Wjrr, Orlando Bmx, all the local news stations, again there are more people that have helped. This is just off the top of my head. ”

Mike Cottle

With that said check out these links for more and make sure to add your name to the petition.

Welcome to episode 5 of Freestyle 5. We are kicking off 2012 with a new format and some big news. We are becoming a weekly show, so we can keep up with the vast amount of killer edits coming out. Expect the same high quality interviews and product reviews to follow. So stay tuned and check in often.
For now enjoy two interviews never seen in public before. The first one is with Redbull’s Anthony Napolitan and Northeast Destroyer Brian Hunt, discussion this past years Redbull Dreamline dirt competition. The second interview is with vert legend Jamie Bestwick. We had a chance to sit down and ask Jamie some questions about his roles as a top podium contest rider and also as tv personality for the dew tour contests; and questions about where bmx has come from and where it is headed. So sit back and enjoy. Because the year has just begun.

It is always a big blow to see so much hard work be flattened in a matter of minutes. We all accept when we dig and build that there is a day when unexpectedly everything is gone with the tracks of a front end loader left behind. Casselberry wasn’t meant to share this same fate, because the trails set on private land. Well that changed the day the city decided they didnt make any money out of the trails so they must be demolished; all because of some bureacratic moron who has too much control. We have seen some great edits coming out of Casselberry over the years. Big names like Mark Mulville and Mike Cottle call this place home. I got a chance to see these trails a long time ago before they introduced the nice clay, and I can say a lot of time and dedication went into this project. In a state like Florida trails are a hot commodity, due to the lack of good dirt. This adds insult to injury.
Here is a news clip from the local fox channel talking about the trails and their future posted up by Cottle. Florida is losing a gem.

Burr Ridge, Ill. – Sept. 26, 2011 – 50 Cent will perform a concert directly following the Skate Street Finals in The Joint at 9:30pm on Friday, October 14. The concert will be held in The Joint as part of the Dew Tour Championships presented by GoDaddy.com in Las Vegas, the final stop of the 2011 season. The four day event, held October 13-16 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, will feature the biggest names in action sports competing for the Dew Cup in skate street and vert and BMX dirt, park and vert.

Known as one of the biggest commercial hip-hop success stories of the past decade, 50 Cent rose to fame with his breakout album Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Born Curtis Jackson in Jamaica, Queens, he quickly became used to holding his own in a rough street life of drugs and crime. He chose to focus on his rap career after a street shooting left him in the hospital for five months. Following his debut release, he was discovered by Eminem and Dr. Dre, who helped him rise to fame and reach commercial success with the eight-time platinum Get Rich or Die Tryin’, as well as start G-Unit Records, which spawned many successful rappers. 50 Cent’s four studio albums have resulted in over 24 million sales worldwide. He is set to release his next album in November, making his performance at the Dew Tour Championships presented by GoDaddy.com a highly anticipated show in the hip hop industry.
